"Father, father:”
Judging from the words "speaking" and "walking," both human actions,
the boy is describing his earthly father. The little boy commands his father
to speak since the voice of the father would confirm his presence. The
father, however, never appears; he is either dead, deadbeat, or perhaps
not in the vicinity.
