George Sandys (1578-1644) wrote Ovid's Metamorphosis
Englished, Mythologized, And Represented in Figures in 1632. The phrase
"your soft wooll" appears in The Fifteenth Booke. In lines 137-140,
he writes:
"You Sheepe, what ill did you? a gentle beast,
Whose vdders swell with Nectar, borne t'inuest
Exposed man with your soft wooll; and are
Aliue, then dead, more profitable farre."
Also, since wool can refer to the short, soft under-hair
or down forming part of the coat of certain hairy or furry animals (e.g.
sheep and beavers), there may be sexual connotations to consider as well.
