At the winter meeting the of the Vice Presidents of Academic Affairs in February, Dr. Beheruz Sethna, Executive Vice Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer, presented the recommendation that students scoring 560 or higher on the SAT Reasoning Test, Writing Section be exempt from the Regents Writing Skills requirement, while at the same time electing to delete the option that students with a minimum defined SAT/ACT score in combination with grades in English 1101 be exempt. Receiving no opposition, he has now authorized this change, thus the option to use the writing score is effective immediately and can be applied to students currently enrolled. The option to use the combination of the grades in English and the SAT/ACT will be grandfathered through 2007-2008 for enrolled students. Any student entering the USG after Summer 2008 or later will not have that option. At this time we have not identified a similar ACT writing score exemption.
