Resources

The Utah Shakespeare Company has put together a splendid set of resources on this play:

     The Play
A small cutting from the play that shows a serious moment as Julie struggles with her mother's failing health and her own responsibilities. The play is generally more comic than this moment, but what makes it attractive is the way it blends the comic and the somber. If you would like to borrow a reading copy of the play, you'll find one at the Athens Regional Library. You can also borrow one from Leigh or Fran; just email us at the addresses given above.

    Background

Start with the ultimate Barrymore site, with a good family history and wonderful pictures.

Here's more information about the Barrymore family upon whom the Cavendish family is based.

Pictures of the Drews and Barrymores on this page (toward the bottom). At the bottom, there's a link to a biography of John Barrymore, the model for Tony in The Royal Family.
There's a movie version, and here's background about it . And a television special exists as well, as this webpage tells you.

And there will be our production-- here's Fran's Initial Proposal. Do not hold her to this one!
