Christian Gallichio

Christian Gallichio is a PhD Candidate focusing on nineteenth-century transatlantic literature. His teaching and research interests include eighteenth- and nineteenth-century British and American literature and culture, gift and ritual theory, adaptation theory, transatlantic exchange, Neo-Romanticism and Victorianism, as well as the history of the novel and composition studies.

His dissertation, entitled "Huddled 'Round the Hearth: Ritualized Gift-Exchange in Transatlantic Nineteenth-Century Christmas Fiction" explores the legacy of the Puritan conversion narrative, arguing that conversion became a dominant literary genre in transatlantic holiday literature, that replaced explicit declarations of faith within the Puritan context with performative gift-exchange that reinforced spiritual transformation, and belief in the ‘holiday spirit.’
