Emily Martin will give an immersive talk titled: Artists Books: an Unplanned Journey

In her talk, Martin will discuss a number of her artists books and the processes behind them.

Martin (MFA, University of Iowa) joined the faculty of the University of Iowa Center for the Book in 1998 where she teaches artists books, paper engineering, and traditional bookbinding classes. She has produced over fifty artist’s books, often using movable and/or sculptural paper engineering techniques. Martin’s books are included in public and private collections throughout the world, including the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York; the Meermanno Museum, The Hague, Netherlands; The Victoria and Albert Museum, London; The Museum of Contemporary Art of Chicago; the Tate Britain, London, England, the Library of Congress and others.

The Symposium on the Book explores the nature of material texts in all their forms, across time and space, and is sponsored by the Willson Center for Humanities and Arts, the University of Georgia Libraries, and the University of Georgia Departments of English and History.
