The Creative Writing Program at the University of Georgia directs and supports the emergence of the artistic voice in print. Originality of vision--the living spark at the core of a poem, an essay, a story--can't be taught. But at the same time our faculty is dedicated to fostering serious conversations, among our students, about aesthetics and criticism, experience and culture, politics and history. As an academic program, we are also committed to playing a public role in the cultural life of the University and the community it serves.
The Program is home to a diverse array of talents and interests, working in a wide range of genres and media. We offer both the MFA and the PhD, each of which involves participation in a mix of writing workshops and graduate literature courses, culminating in the submission of a creative thesis or dissertation of publishable quality.
