Benjamin Fagan is Assistant Professor of English at Auburn University, and a specialist in early African American literature and print culture. He was the 2016 Fulbright Visiting Professor in American Studies at the University of Graz, Austria, and has held fellowships from the NEH, American Antiquarian Society, and American Academy of Arts and Sciences. He is the author of The Black Newspaper and the Chosen Nation (UGA Press, 2016), and editor of African American Literature in Transition: 1830-1850, a collection of essays under contract from Cambridge University Press. His work has appeared in such major journals as African American Review, Legacy, and American Periodicals.
